Frequent questions

Always ensure you unplug the Rice Cooker from the mains outlet socket before carrying out the cleaning procedure. The exterior of the Rice Cooker, the inside of the lid and the power cord should be cleaned using a soft damp cloth and then throughly wipe dry. Do not use water to clean the interior of the Rice Cooker as this could damage the heat sensor. The non-stick bowl, the steam basket, the condensation collector, the spoon and the measuring cup are all dishwasher safe.
Refer to recipe advice supplied in instructions. There will be different cooking times and water quantities for different types of rice.
As a guide to cook 1 cup of rice (serves 2 small or 1 large portion) use 1 measuring cup of white rice and then add one and a half measuring cup of water. With some types of rice it is normal for a little rice to stick on the base when cooking 1 cup of rice.
There is not enough water/rice in the bowl. Wash the rice thoroughly and leave it to soak for approximately 20 minutes.
There is not enough or too much water compared to the quantity of rice being cooked, please refer to the cooking guide. Make sure that the rice is well distributed around the whole surface of the bowl in order to allow even cooking.
There is no need to precook vegetables or shellfish before putting them in the rice as the steaming action will cook them thoroughly.
For rice, cereals, oatmeal and steam: temperature 100°c during cooking
For cake function: around 135°C
For slow cooking: around 90°C
For Keep warm: around 70-80°C
The lid is not closed properly, the micropressure valve is not fitted correctly or the gasket may be damaged. Stop cooking, unplug the Rice Cooker and check everything is correctly fitted.
Yes you can, but remember not to overload the steaming basket as it is fairly shallow (ie not as deep as a steaming basket) and there needs to be some space for steam to circulate around the food. Also remember that you might not want raw meat/fish juices going into the rice as it is cooked although this will add some flavour - you may want to cook meat or fish on greaseproof paper in the steamer. Vegetables will be fine.
The colour of the bowl surface may change after using for the first time or after a long period of use. Its change in colour is due to the action of steam and water and does not have any effect on the use of the Rice Cooker nor is it dangerous for your health. It is safe to continue using.
Place the bowl into the Rice Cooker base then plug in the appliance in. After replacing the bowl, if the E1 error code does not clear, you will need to send your appliance to a Authorised Service Centre for repair.
Yes. You can add salt and seasoning in the water to give a better taste.
You need to press "Menu" first and then keep pressing "Menu" until you get to the program you require. Then press "Start". Also, ensure that the base of the bowl is clean, that there is nothing between the base of the bowl and the element and that the bowl is positioned firmly in place.
After removing the inner lid, push up the micro-pressure valve through the lid hole with your finger from the underside of the lid, rotate the mictro-pressure valve in the unlocking direction until the upper triangle is aligned with the opened padlock and finally separate the upper and lower parts of the micro-pressure valve. Wash in hot soapy water with a sponge - do not use scouring powders or metal scourers.
As your appliance only has one heat setting on the Slow Cooker function, where recipes in a slow cooker recipe book refer to using a high or a low setting, for the 8in1 cooker use the low setting cooking times. Also, some recipe books advise preheating the slow cooker empty before use. You should NEVER do this with the 8-in-1 cooker.
The steaming function is only suitable for fish, vegetables and fruit. It can also steam desserts in individual ramekin dishes. This is because these foods have a short steaming time and do not have a dense texture. When steaming chicken in the 8in1 it is not possible to fully to cook it through to the centre.
Yes, they are dishwasher safe. But be careful not to damage the inside coating on the dishwasher racks when you put the elements into the machine. After having washed them several times in the dishwasher, it is recommended to wipe the whole of the inner surface of the bowl with a little oil.
Ensure you do not exceed the 10 cup mark shown in "cups" on the inside of the bowl, exceeding this level may cause overflows during use.
Empty the condensation collector after each use and check it is correctly positioned.
The bowl is not correctly positioned on the element.
No. The bowl is not dishwasher safe. We recommend hand washing in hot water and washing up liquid using a non abrasive sponge (suitable for non-stick coatings). Dry thoroughly straightaway. After having washed the bowl it is also recommended to wipe the whole of the inner surface with a little oil before next use to condition the non-stick coating and maintain its non-stick properties.

Put the rice in the rice bowl and fill it with water.
Put the rice bowl in the steam basket or in the largest bowl and start cooking.
The steam cooker doesn't cook under pressure, it instead uses the ambient pressure.
The steam in the steam cooker is water boiling temperature, approximately 100°C.
No, you can steam all types of food: meat, fish, eggs, potatoes, desserts rice, couscous etc.
Yes, they are dishwasher safe but it is preferable to wash on the lowest heat setting or prewash setting.
No, but use the steam accessory for frozen ingredients, for steam cooking without mixing ingredients and without sauce, or as indicated in the recipes provided.
Do not use the steam basket for rice, cereals and vegetables as water is necessary for the proper cooking of these ingredients.
Do not use your appliance. To avoid any danger, have it replaced by an approved repair centre.
The ingredients are very dense and have a different cooking time: try to prolong the cooking time.
Too many ingredients are cooked together: put the larger sized ingredients and the ingredients with a longer cooking time in the lower bowl.
Try to not overload the steam bowls.
Descale your appliance.
Cut the ingredients into small pieces.
If the cooking times are different for the food in each of the bowls, start cooking the food that requires the most time in the lower bowl and then add the upper bowl(s) while cooking is in progress to complete the cooking cycle.
Your appliance contains valuable materials which can be recovered or recycled. Leave it at a local civic waste collection point.
After following the instructions in the user manual for starting the appliance, make sure that your electrical socket is working by plugging another appliance. If it still does not work, do not try to dismantle or repair the appliance yourself, instead, take it to an approved repair centre

This is working correctly. The turbo ring surrounds the heater so that the water inside is effectively heated. It is designed so that it doesn't fit flush and the water from the space in between is used to make the steam. Please make sure that the turbo ring is orientated correctly so the notch is facing down.
We recommend that you put the largest pieces of food, requiring the longest cooking time in the lowest basket.
Some recipes require the use of cling film for protection, to prevent condensation and protect delicate foods.
Choose a special cling film for cooking, or microwave-safe cling film.
Avoid aluminium foil which tends to increase cooking time.
You simply place the eggs in the steamer basket. The cooking time is 12 minutes for 6 hard-boiled eggs, 8 minutes for 6 soft-boiled eggs.
Yes, especially for recipes with long cooking times.
Also monitor the water level during cooking in case it needs refilling.
Yes, to give meat, chicken and fish a delicious moist flavour you can marinate them a few hours before steaming.
On average, we recommend descaling your appliance every 7 to 10 uses to maintain an effective flow of steam and extend the life of your appliance.
To do this, simply fill the water tank with 1/3 white vinegar and 2/3 water.
Leave to act cold for 1 night.
Rinse the inside of the water tank several times with warm water.
Never use abrasive cleaning products.
We only recommend using canned or precooked pulses and beans in the steamer. They should be drained and rinsed and then placed in the steamer basket. They do not need to be soaked or boiled first.
The bowls are equipped with detachable grills, except the drip tray which must always keep its grills.
By removing the grills, you increase the cooking zone to cook bulky foods (whole chickens, artichokes, lobster, cauliflower, broccoli, etc).
To put the grills into position:
• Keep the grill on the correct side (the clip facing down).
• Put the grill into the bowl.
• Press on the clip zone to attach the bowl.
To remove the grills, press on the top of the grill.
Yes, but not too often, because this results in a drop in temperature and a loss of steam which can slow down the cooking.
When there's not enough water in the tank, the device no longer heats.
Fill it again up to the maximum height mark and the device will automatically restart the cooking programme.
Use gloves and be careful not to touch hot surfaces, or foods being cooked, when refilling the tank.
Over time, the strong coloured natural juices from foods such as carrots and beetroot may stain the juice collector. This is normal. It may be cleaned with lemon juice straight after cooking.
For recipes with a long cooking time you will need to refill the water tank during the cooking period. To refill the water tank, you should use oven gloves to lift the lid and steamer basket. Carefully lift and empty any water that has collected in the juice collector, then refill the water tank using cold untreated tap water.
Yes, it must be descaled every 7 to 10 uses. To do this, simply fill the water tank with 1/3 white vinegar and 2/3 water.
Leave to act cold for 1 night.
Rinse the inside of the water tank several times with warm water.
Never use abrasive cleaning products.
You could use other animal milk (goats, ewes, mares) or plant-based milk (soya). These types of milk will give less consistency yoghurt than cow's milk.
Yoghurts should not be made with rice milk, hazelnut milk or chestnut milk due to lack of consistency.

You could use other animal milk (goats, ewes, mares) or plant-based milk (soya). These types of milk will give less consistency yoghurt than cow's milk.

When food items like rice which contain both protein and carbohydrates are cooked at high temperatures, the amino acids and sugar will separate and give a grey appearance. This will not have an impact on taste and is safe to eat.
• Fill the cooker: minimum 250 ml of liquid, maximum 2/3 of its height or even less (depending on type of food and the recipe).
• Close the pressure cooker: all our pressure cookers are designed so that if they are not properly closed the pressure cannot build up.
• Cooking: the pressure cooker must be placed on a source of heat set to maximum. Then, within a few minutes, it reaches a temperature of over 100C (110C to 120C depending on the type or the position of the pressure regulator valve). The pressure regulator valve allows the steam to escape: the heat should then be turned down and the cooking time calculated. This operation allows an energy saving of up to 70 % compared with conventional cooking in water.
• End of cooking, decompression: when the cooking time has lapsed, the heat source must be turned off and all the steam evacuated by putting the pressure regulator valve to the steam release position. The pressure cooker can now be opened. You can accelerate the release of steam from the pressure cooker by putting it under a stream of cold water.
Pressure cookers cook at 13lb/psi - 0,9 bar for meat and 8lb / psi - 0,55 bar for vegetables.
The pressure cooker has several systems that guarantee perfect safety in operation.
• Safe closing system (depending on models): The pressure cooker is equipped with a safety system that prevents any rise in pressure if the lid is not completely or properly closed. If the lid is incorrectly positioned, the safety system will prevent the locking indicator pin from rising and consequently pressure from building up.
• Safe opening system (depending on models): If the pressure cooker is under pressure, the locking indicator pin is raised and prevents it from being opened. To allow the pin to drop, it is necessary to evacuate the pressure and only then is it possible to open the pressure cooker. Check the locking indicator pin or pressure indicator (depending on models) position. It must be in low position to be opened.
• Safety with excess pressure: during cooking, should the steam outlet become blocked, the excess pressure safety systems will come into operation:
1) First stage: the safety valve releases the pressure.
2) Second stage: the gasket allows the pressure to be released between the lid and the pan.
3) Third stage (depending on models): the locking indicator pin rises above the handle and allows the pressure to be released vertically. To open your pressure cooker, after complete cooling, the locking indicator pin must be put into place.
You can cook practically everything in a pressure cooker: You can prepare soups, cook meat, fish and vegetables and also create delicious desserts. For full recipe ideas, please refer to your pressure cooker recipe book or the Website.
Before opening the cooker, be sure you have released all the steam and that the locking indicator pin is down. If you are sure all steam has been released, shake the product and see if the locking indicator pin or pressure indicator (depending on models) goes down. If it does not, run the cooker under cold water and try opening it again.
Do not leave food in the Pressure Cooker before and after cooking. Leave your prepared food in the fridge in a closed tub.
Pressure cookers used on a hob reach approximately 118°C on the Chicken symbol and approximately 111°C on the Vegetable symbol.
Be careful not to put your pressure cooker in the oven. The contractual warranty will not apply if this instruction is not followed.
You can use the pot as a huge saucepan or stew pot. For this particular purpose, you can buy glass lid for your pressure cooker.
No, we strongly advise you not to use the pressure cooker for frying, as it could get damaged.
The Pressure Cooker can be opened when it has cooled down and when the internal pressure has been reduced (when the locking indicator pin or pressure indicator (depending on models) has gone down completely).
The pressure cooker allows boiling (foods are submerged in water with or without the basket) or steaming (foods are placed in the basket above the water mark).
It may also be used to simmer or sauté before pressure cooking or even stewing with a lid but without a pressure increase.
After 10 years of use, your pressure cooker will have deserved some attention: get it checked out at an approved service centre.
For cooking directly in the pan, always add a minimum quantity of liquid or at least equal to 2 glasses (25 cl or 8.8 UK fl oz).
For steam cooking, pour 75 cl (26 UK fl oz) water into the bottom of the pan.
Maximum filling: do not fill the pressure cooker above 2/3 the height of the pan.
Warning: if the pressure cooker is heated without liquid inside, have it checked by an Approved Service Centre.
The pressure cooker is made to last and adjust to family development.
Here are the recommended litre capacities:
• for 1 to 4 people: 3 to 4.5 L
• for 4 to 6 people: 6 L
• for 6 to 8 people: 7.5 L to 8 L
• for 7 to 10 people: 10 L
You can use the pressure cooker to steam cook. It is a high quality method of cooking vegetables for example: it preserves vitamins and nutrients.
- Use no more than 750 ml (6 glasses) of liquid.
- Use the steam basket; put it on the trivet or suspend it from the rivets on the pan (depending on models) and take care that the food does not get immersed into the water.
Use suitable heat sources. Refer to the instructions for use for heat sources suitability. Models that feature our exclusive Diffusal base work extremely well on all types of cooking surfaces, including induction. Use a hob with a diameter equal to or less than the diameter of the base of the pressure cooker.
During the first 5 minutes, the absence of pressure is normal, while the pressure cooker heats up.
If it still hasn't reached pressure after the first 5 to 10 mins then please check:
• the fire or heat source is lit and set to maximum.
• the lid is properly closed.
• the gasket is well positioned and is not dirty or warped.
• you have enough water in the pot: 250ml (2 glasses) minimum.
• the pressure switch is properly set (depending on the model).
• the locking indicator or pressure indicator is not blocked (depending on the model).

In any cases, consult the user manual for your pressure cooker.
There are 2 methods:
Slow release - gradually turn the programme selector to the steam position. This is used for stews, vegetable, joints of meat and fish dishes.
Fast release - place the pressure cooker under a cold tap directing the flow of water onto the metal part of the lid. This is used for liquid based dishes such as soups, rice, pasta, milk puddings, egg custards, cake and pudding mixtures, recipes containing rice or pasta and recipes with a high liquid content, in order to avoid the liquid shooting out of the steam valve along with the steam when you release the pressure regulator valve.

When the pressure indicator is down, all pressure has been released.
It is imperative to have your pressure cooker checked by an authorised service centre after 10 years of use.

WASH THE POT:
• After each use, wash the pot, the basket and the seal with water and washing-up liquid. Do not use bleach or chlorinated products.

WASH THE LID (*according to the pressure cooker):
• Wash your lid and gasket with a sponge and washing-up liquid separately.
• Dry them and reposition the gasket in the lid.
Caution: Never run your timer underwater if you have one.

WASH THE LID AND MODULE* (*according to the pressure cooker):
• After each use, it is advisable to remove the control module to wash it.
• Turn the lid over and use a coin to unscrew the fixing nut of your module.
• Wash your module and lid with a sponge and washing-up liquid.
Caution: never run your timer under water.
• Refasten the module on the lid, make sure that the position switch is aligned with the "open pressure cooker" pictogram and that the jaws are pressed against the lid. Turn the assembly over and tighten the nut.

DISHWASHER:
Depending on your model, the number of parts going into the dishwasher will be different.
For some models, only the pot is dishwasher safe.
For other models, only the pot and lid without the module will be dishwasher safe.
For the ClipsoMinut' Duo model, none of the parts are dishwasher-safe.
Note: No gasket, timer or module is dishwasher safe.

CHECK THE SECURITY DEVICES:
1) If you have a product with a removable module:
When you clean the module, take the opportunity to check that your security devices are not obstructed.
• Steam release outlet: check visually against light that the outlet is not obstructed. If it is, run it under water.
• Check that the operating valve is movable by selecting the "vegetables" pictogram and pressing it.
• Safety valve: press strongly with a cotton bud on the central part of the pipe which must be mobile.
• The gasket: after each cooking operation, clean the gasket and its slot with a sponge and washing-up liquid. Replace it well in its slot.

2) For other products:
• Operating valve: remove the valve, clean it under tap water.
• Steam release outlet: check visually against light that the pipe is not obstructed. If it is, run it under water.
• Safety valve: Press the valve lightly which should move easily.
• The gasket: clean the gasket with a sponge and washing-up liquid after each cooking operation. Place it back properly in its slot.
If you have a conventional pressure cooker, gently clean the visible part of the seal and the edge of the pot.
• Check you have at least 250ml of liquid in the pot.
• Check that the gasket is fitted correctly. Some models have a peg inside the lid that lines up with a little hole on the gasket. If the peg and hole are not lined up properly it will affect the pressure.
• The gasket may be dirty, or it is warped and needs to be replaced. Gaskets should be replaced every year.
• Check the regulator valve is clear and not blocked with any remnants of food.
• Check that the rim of the pot is in good condition and the pot is not warped.
• The regulating valve is not positioned correctly or the regulator is not in position 1 or 2 (depending on models). Refer to your instruction booklet for the method used with your specific model.
• The heat is too low. Always use high heat to bring the cooker up to pressure. Once that has been done, and you get a strong flow of steam, lower the heat source to establish an even flow and start timing from this point. All recipes require the heat source to be lowered once pressure has been reached.
• The locking indicator is stuck. This is a locking indicator pin or pressure indicator (depending on models) that rises when pressure builds inside the cooker and drops when it is released. If it does not rise, it may need to be cleaned. Refer to the booklet for cleaning instructions for your specific model.
• Check you have fitted the lid correctly.

In aany cases, consult the user manual for your pressure cooker.
• Make sure that the position switch is aligned with the "open pressure cooker" pictogram.
• Check that the gasket is properly in place.
• If you open/close your pressure cooker during cooking, apply light pressure to the centre of the lid to close it.
• For ClipsoMinut'® pressure cooker models only, remove the gasket from your lid and run it under water. Put it back into the lid without wiping it off.
• Switch off the heat source.
• Let the pressure cooker cool down.
• After opening your pressure cooker, check that all the steam has escaped and that the locking indicator is in its correct place (depending on model).
• Check and clean all working parts and the state of the gasket.
If the problem persists take your pressure cooker (all parts of it) to a recommended service centre.
Check that the pressure indicator is correctly positioned on one of the cooking programmes and that your pressure cooker is properly closed.
Most of the pressure cookers have setting 1. for such foods as vegetables and setting 2. for meats and frozen food.
Turn the lid upside down on the pot as this helps to preserve the life of the gasket.
No, because the pressure cooker cannot run the cooking programme without the timer.
After removal, the timer will be deactivated and cannot warn you that cooking has finished.
This is normal for the first few minutes of heating.
If this condition remains unchanged, check that:
• The heat is turned up to the highest position.
• The quantity of liquid inside the pressure cooker is sufficient.
• The programme selector is not set to the steam release position.
• The cooker is firmly closed.
Yes, this does not affect the quality of your preparations and the safety of your pressure cooker is not impacted.
• The pressure cooker is overfull.
• The heat is too high.
• Pressure regulator, locking indicator pin or safety device are blocked, due to inadequate maintenance and preventing normal operation.
Only without the lid, particularly for browning food first.
Pressure-cooking times can be up to 3 times faster than in a traditional pot. Start with the recipes in the recipe/instruction book that came with your cooker. Once you understand the principles, they can be applied to other recipes. Be sure to include at least 250 ml (2 glasses) of liquid.
Cooking begins when the pressure regulator valve allows steady release of steam, making a regular hissing noise. At this point, turn the heat down and calculate the cooking time given in the recipe.
Some models have specific programmes for meats or vegetables, designed for optimal cooking.
Turn the lid over on the pan. Turn down the handles if your model allows.
Check that the valves are not obstructed before each use. To carry out the check, refer to the illustrations corresponding to your pressure cooker model.
Check that the opening/closing handle is in vertical position.
Check that the gasket is correctly mounted.
Have it checked at an Authorised Service Partner.
Yes. Use without liquid will seriously damage it.
This is normal for the first few minutes.

Check that:
• The heat source is strong enough, otherwise turn it up.
• The amount of liquid in the tank is sufficient.
• The operating valve is positioned on the 1/2 pictograms or on the ingredient pictograms.
• The pressure cooker is properly closed.
• There is no damage to the seal or the rim of the bowl.
• The gasket is correctly positioned in the lid.

If the phenomenon persists:
• Turn off the heat source.
• Move the position switch to the pictogram where you can see steam escaping.

• Wait for the pressure presence indicator to come down.
• Open your pressure cooker.
• Clean the operating valve and the steam exhaust pipe.
Check the following elements:
• Did you lower the heat when the steam control valve started to release steam continuously, producing a constant whistling sound?
• Did you release steam after the cooking time?
If you let the pressure cooker release steam itself without any decompression, food will continue to cook as the appliance will be under pressure.
When the cooking time has ended, you should turn off the heat and release the steam.
The cooking time depends on the quantities, size of the foodstuffs and your personal tastes.
Never put the timer in the dishwater or under tap water, as it is not waterproof.
Never use any solvents.
Just use a clean dry cloth.
For aluminium models, repeat "using for the first time" operations with bicarbonate of soda (see your instructions). For Stainless steel models, clean the pan with a scouring pad and a specialised stainless steel cleaner. Never use bleach.
Place your timer on its support by engaging it directly against the button. Then lower its ring towards the valve by pressing it firmly. The timer will then clip onto its holder.
Place the position switch on one of the cooking symbols corresponding to your pressure cooker.

• For pressure cookers with 1 pressure level, including ClipsoMinut'®, be sure to set your switch to the next position:

• For pressure cookers with 2 pressure levels, including Clipso® + Precision, make sure your switch is set to one of the following positions:
Vegetables
Meat

• For pressure cookers with 4 pressure levels, including Nutricook®, be sure to set your switch to one of the following positions:
Vegetables
Starches
Meat
Fish and Seafood

If the problem persists, have your device checked by an Approved Service Centre.
If steam leaks out around the lid, check that:
• the lid is properly closed; the seal is sitting correctly inside the lid,
• is the seal dirty? If so, clean it;
• the gasket is in good condition - don't forget to change it every year;
• is the seal still suitable?
• On Authentique models is the tightening sufficient?
• Is the cover damaged or dented?
• Are the lid, safety valve and pressure regulator clean?
• Check the rim of the pressure cooker is not damaged.
The gasket should be replaced every year. If the pressure cooker does not reach pressure and there is steam escaping around the lid, please check that the gasket is fitted correctly.

Replacing the gasket for clamp models (Pressure cooker, 'authentique' or 'Actua'):
Remove the old gasket, make sure that the seal housing is clean. Install the new joint by pushing with your fingers in order to insert it in its space. To avoid damaging the gasket, do not use another object.

Replacing the gasket for other models:
Remove the old gasket and replace it with the new one.

Yes, as indicated in the manual, the accessory exists as reference X1060007. You can buy it from your authorized service center or in the Accessories section of the website.

It will take longer for pressure to build up, but the cooking time will be the same (once the operating valve is activated).
Cooking begins when the pressure regulator valve allows steady release of steam, making a regular hissing noise, at this point turn the heat down and calculate the cooking time given in the recipe. With a Nutricook, a second ring tone warns to reduce the heat for an end-cooking of gentle steam.
For cooking large pieces of meat and foods with a superficial skin (whole sausages, tongue, poultry...), we advise you to prick them before cooking with a knife or fork. Indeed, during cooking they may contain boiling liquid and generate splashes.

Always keep a small boil during cooking, but make sure that the pressure indicator does not rise and prevent the lid from opening. The cooking times in stewpot mode are given as an indication and vary according to your tastes and ingredients.
Check:
• The cooking time,
• Whether the source of heat is turned up enough after reaching the working pressure,
• The proper positioning of the pressure regulator valve,
• The quantity of liquid.
Yes, we recommend cleaning the lid gasket after cooking each time with a sponge and washing up liquid, and its housing for models with removable gasket.
For removable gaskets, to put them back in place, make sure that the inscription "lid side" is against the lid.
This is because pressure cooking is much faster than traditional cooking.
The cooking times must, therefore, be closely followed for good results.
